Love, Indonesia

Rwâneka dhâtu winuwus Buddha Wiswa,
Bhinnêki rakwa ring apan kena parwanosen,
Mangka ng Jinatwa kalawan Siwatatwa tunggal,
Bhinnêka tunggal ika tan hana dharma mangrwa.

Let me starts off the first post on this thread Indonesia by saying how much I love my country Indonesia. As an Indonesian born Chinese, I'm pretty sure I've experienced many things that we all have - the cultural clash that comes along with diverse ethnicity in a metropolitan city (I live in Jakarta).

Well honestly I've never really witnessed a riot slash massacre worse than the May 1998 tragedy in Indo. Back then I was still a 4th grader so I didn't know much. All I know was staying inside my comfortable home, toying with cousins and sisters, eating instant noodles which I really loved back then (not so much now due to health-related concerns), having fun all week long with family, and that's it.

Only when I'm old enough I start to comprehend the extent of May tragedy, the horror and the grief of those who lost their beloved on that day.. :'(

God be with you..

The notorious HI roundabout (stands for Hotel Indonesia, now is Kempinski) where all the demonstrators or public campaigns or attention grabbers always gather at. Hence, traffic.

There are countless stories of why it happened, whose behind it, the conspiracy surrounding the national turmoil, etc. Questions, answers, theories, there are plenty of it.

But oh well, history is a history. It's there for a reason. I really hope my country can do its best on the development pathway... to be one as a nation. The country's official motto is the old Javanese Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, which means Unity in Diversity. We have around 250 million population in 2012 and growing, with an ever-increasing middle-class. Better education, broader knowledge, greater national contribution, bigger impact on the world.

The many tribes, races, ethnicities of Indonesians. Unity in Diversity.

Are there ways to improve the country? Of course there are, just like any other thing in life. Life is a neverending learning process, and I'm grateful to live in such a developing country - cause that'd mean there's a lot to improve.

God always says, "Give." It's like a healthy church mentality where everybody makes a habit of giving and contributing to the church growth, instead of demanding the church to provide for our needs and fulfil our expectations. Give, give, and give.

Narsha: I'm In Love

This song really brings back memory of a peaceful life in Sydney.. I think the original singer is a guy, and that one is as good as this female version.

Knew this song through my elder sister (an official K-pop fan). I think I'm converting too.. semi-brainwashed. Who can help it? Such a beautiful song and lyric.

Believe, and You Will See

“Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.

There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
(Genesis 1:1, Psalm 19:1-4)

What God reveals to the world, is for us to ponder. What He does not, who can understand? For there's none but Jesus who fully understands the breadth, the length, the height, the depth, and the glory of the Lord's Kingdom.

It's something grand, something majestic, something glorious, something that'll always be so much more than we can ever think of.

What is a human but a flesh? It's not a self-defeating statement to say that we mortals don't have forever. To me, it's a very much realistic acknowledgement of life. Truly, truly, who can ever live with no God?

Ephesians 3:18
And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

Hebrews 1:3
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Give A Little Love, Just A Little Love

If you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own.

A video by KŘIŽOVATKA OLOMOUC with background music of Noah and The Whale. Can find the lyric here. Stumbled through this video through a series of bbm broadcast and thanks to Google, found out that it's produced by a Czech, Christian non-profit organisation. Absolutely beautiful.

Isn't it beautiful? Little gestures that count, little deeds that last a lifetime.

Life's more wonderful when everybody can have this sweet awareness to help others, no matter how insignificant they think their action is. Keeping the doors opened for a mother carrying a baby behind us, helping the elderlies cross the road/carry their shopping bags, picking the empty can of coke on the pavement so that nobody got slipped, bringing a takeaway dinnerbox for our colleagues working overtime, holding the lift door for a stranger, etc.

It takes an active approach to life. Maybe a 30-day routine to make it into a habit, and another 60 days to make it be a character. Be nice to people who're not nice to us yet. Be even nicer to people who're already nice to us. Be helpful first, expect to be helped later.

John 15:12
"This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you."
