Beauty in God's Sight, Beyond The Surface Level

Do you prefer the hot or cute girl?.

A conversation with a male church friend yesterday reminded me of this phrase, "Beauty is fleeting, but the fear of the Lord endures forever." I feel so blessed to be surrounded by Godly male friends who, although sometimes not too sure of what they're seeking from a life partner, are always sure of one quality they want: A God-fearing woman.

Our convo finally led me to think of beauty. Well we know that the world has imposed certain "common" standards of beauty. These are the norms, the must-be and must-haves of every single women here if we're aiming to get that perfect guy. I think we all know what those criteria gonna be so I'll save the lengthy elaboration.

This time, I learn about beauty through God's own perspective. How does God see a beautiful lady?

1 Peter 3:3-4
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

Do I want to be pretty? Yes. Do I want to be considered attractive? Of course. I'm as normal as any normal lady would be. I still dye my hair every now and then, use lotion to take care of my skin, makeups and curling iron etc, I still love all that. B
ut one thing I want the most is to be beautiful in God's eyes. I want to pursue this lasting, eternal beauty instead of the temporary and fleeting one. Using the investment term, why invest money and time in something that I know will depreciate in value over the time? Choosing to invest in the consistent (and proven) medium will be wiser, I think.

Reading the above verse somehow just gives me a great sense of peace. It's a feeling of relief, where I know that what matters most in my Most beloved guy's eyes is my true, inner self. I can almost hear Him saying, "Hey dear, you look fabulous and I know you take a great care of yourself, but how's your heart doing?"

True beauty comes from within. A lady in perfection is just like a polished diamond. She is bright, glowing, possessing a clear conscience, and strong. Her way is gentle, her words are soft. Her mind is pure and harbours no bitter envy nor selfish ambition. Her hand is fruitful, and her gaze is steady. Forgiveness and mercy is her lifestyle. She's kind and compassionate to one another (excerpted from many verses).

The beautiful lady leads her life by following God's footsteps. She mirrors God's way of living on earth through Jesus, and she learns to love God more and more throughout her life journey. Her life is ruled by peace, not fear. She feels secure of her ability, making use of her strengths to glorify God and humbling herself for her weaknesses. She's quiet, meaning that she doesn't just speak whatever everytime she's emotional. She understands how deceitful emotions can be, and that's why she doesn't let her own feelings to rule over her actions. She'll do what is right in God's sight, not human's.

In summary, a God-fearing woman is the only standard of beauty every Christian women should aim for. Read Proverbs 31 if you want to know more about the guideline. Don't you find all the above qualities beautiful? Pray to God and ask Him to show you the real beauty on earth. He gives freely to anyone who asks, without doubt.

Pursue God and personal experience with Him. There you'll find inner contentment and tranquility in your heart. Fear is not peace. Whenever you fear of gaining weight and being marked "ugly" by people, ask yourself why you feel anxious over those matters. What do you think beauty is?

Go way deeper than the superficial qualities. Go beneath the surface level.

Have a blessed Monday :)
