Westlife ft. The Notebook: One Litre of Tears

To be perfectly honest, I did cry a bit listening to this song while remembering the Notebook storyline. Such a sad movie :(

Alzheimer sure is a very devastating disease. It affects the brain's nerve cells and causes the sufferer's memory to deteriorate over time, gradually losing their ability to remember things in the past, let alone to process new memories. Many tragic, real life stories have been reported from the patient's family and friends. Heartbreaking confessions of how this illness has shattered all hopes and dreams of the future.

The Notebook clearly portrays the sadness, and excruciating pain of living with your loved one forgetting everything about you. That's nearing the final stage of Alzheimer. Can you imagine that? Your most beloved is alive, but at the same time, she's not. You can feel her skin, smell her sweet fragrance, see her smiles, but you are nowhere to be found in her mind.

I believe in miracles, I really do. Just like what happened in the movie, when the old Allie was suddenly awakened with full realisation of who Noah is and their life together, as though she had been sleeping all this time in the progress of the disease. Noah realised this change from the look in her eyes. He saw her. He saw himself in her eyes. That is his moment of miracle..

And I cried!!!

The disease is very severe. Much, much worse than normal dementia (memory problem) for the aging population. Once it's started, the progress can't be stopped. Can be slowed down by treatment and therapy, but never recovered. There's still much ongoing research to find the cure, and hey, you'll be an instant billionaire if you can discover one!

Find out more about the disease here.

So, here are some of my favourite quotes in the movie.

"Stop thinking about what everyone wants, stop thinking about what I want, what your parents want! What do you want Allie?"

"So it's not gonna be easy. It's going to be really hard; we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me.. everyday."

I Wanna Grow Old With You - Westlife

Another day
Without your smile
Another day just passes by
But now I know
How much it means
For you to stay
Right here with me

The time we spent apart will make our love grow stronger
But it hurts so bad I can't take it any longer

I wanna grow old with you
I wanna die lying in your arms
I wanna grow old with you
I wanna be looking in your eyes
I wanna be there for you
Sharing everything you do
I wanna grow old with you..

A thousand miles between us now
It causes me to wonder how
Our love tonight remains so strong
It makes our risk right all along

Things can come and go I know
But baby I believe
Something's burning strong between us
Makes it clear to me
