Clean and Unclean, Pure and Impure

Titus 1:15
To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled

Sometimes, it's not about the thing itself. Clubbing, games, Harry Potter, dating, facebook, tweeter, sci-fi, star wars, etc, those issues are never written in the bible. We'll never know whether God prohibits those things in Christian life or not.

But again, to the pure, all things are pure. And to the unpure, nothing is pure. Even reading Harry Potter book can be considered a sin. How so? Because their mind and conscience are defiled.

Take the Corinthian people as an example. At their times, sexual relationship was still a very controversial matter. Many false prophets arose and taught different teaching than what Jesus intended to be. Some people were truly enjoying their freedom, while others were disgusted even by the thoughts of sex and treated it as something wicked, sinful, and defiled.

The Corinthian citizens are divided into two irreconcilable polars, between celibate and hedonistic way of living. The problem was that bad until a famous historian depicted the women as - married to be divorced, divorced to be married.

Paul tried to fix this misconception by pointing that complete abstinence/rejection/banishment of sexual relationship between happily wedded couple means straying away from the Gospel. As such, the two extremists were foolish on an equal ground.

We have to learn how important it is to follow the Gospel and decipher the message by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes, there are life matters that seem to lie so far away from the Gospel and seem to stay in the grey area. Consider one of the example written above: How can we ever know that the Gospel bans people from going to clubs? Is it wrong to go clubbing on a lovely saturday night with our lovely friends?

To be honest, I don't know. I'm no God myself and hence, I'm unable to speak what's right or what's wrong under God's name, because my knowledge is limited to what's written in the Bible. When it's not written, it's not written. What I know is, God seeks the heart of His faithful sons and daughters. If you're going to clubs to hook up with some guys/girls, binge drinking, or simply to have fun after your sad breakup, I believe those are all the wrong reasons to be there. But if you think, by going there, you're able to glorify God's name even more, then by all means you should be there.

Only you, and you alone, know the motivations and ambitions of your heart. God sees the heart. You may spice up your acts with pretty words to explain your reasons, but at the end of the day, you can never lie to God. He knows your heart.

There's no such thing as a pure, or impure things. There's only one thing that can be purified or defiled: Our heart.

Nothing should be added to God's Words. Nothing more, and nothing less. Keep praying and ask God for more wisdom and discernment, so we can know what the Gospel truly says and not. Let's pray for a true understanding.

Gentle as a dove, smart as a snake.

Be gentle, and be wise.

God bless :)
