Love, Indonesia

Rwâneka dhâtu winuwus Buddha Wiswa,
Bhinnêki rakwa ring apan kena parwanosen,
Mangka ng Jinatwa kalawan Siwatatwa tunggal,
Bhinnêka tunggal ika tan hana dharma mangrwa.

Let me starts off the first post on this thread Indonesia by saying how much I love my country Indonesia. As an Indonesian born Chinese, I'm pretty sure I've experienced many things that we all have - the cultural clash that comes along with diverse ethnicity in a metropolitan city (I live in Jakarta).

Well honestly I've never really witnessed a riot slash massacre worse than the May 1998 tragedy in Indo. Back then I was still a 4th grader so I didn't know much. All I know was staying inside my comfortable home, toying with cousins and sisters, eating instant noodles which I really loved back then (not so much now due to health-related concerns), having fun all week long with family, and that's it.

Only when I'm old enough I start to comprehend the extent of May tragedy, the horror and the grief of those who lost their beloved on that day.. :'(

God be with you..

The notorious HI roundabout (stands for Hotel Indonesia, now is Kempinski) where all the demonstrators or public campaigns or attention grabbers always gather at. Hence, traffic.

There are countless stories of why it happened, whose behind it, the conspiracy surrounding the national turmoil, etc. Questions, answers, theories, there are plenty of it.

But oh well, history is a history. It's there for a reason. I really hope my country can do its best on the development pathway... to be one as a nation. The country's official motto is the old Javanese Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, which means Unity in Diversity. We have around 250 million population in 2012 and growing, with an ever-increasing middle-class. Better education, broader knowledge, greater national contribution, bigger impact on the world.

The many tribes, races, ethnicities of Indonesians. Unity in Diversity.

Are there ways to improve the country? Of course there are, just like any other thing in life. Life is a neverending learning process, and I'm grateful to live in such a developing country - cause that'd mean there's a lot to improve.

God always says, "Give." It's like a healthy church mentality where everybody makes a habit of giving and contributing to the church growth, instead of demanding the church to provide for our needs and fulfil our expectations. Give, give, and give.

Narsha: I'm In Love

This song really brings back memory of a peaceful life in Sydney.. I think the original singer is a guy, and that one is as good as this female version.

Knew this song through my elder sister (an official K-pop fan). I think I'm converting too.. semi-brainwashed. Who can help it? Such a beautiful song and lyric.

Believe, and You Will See

“Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.

There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
(Genesis 1:1, Psalm 19:1-4)

What God reveals to the world, is for us to ponder. What He does not, who can understand? For there's none but Jesus who fully understands the breadth, the length, the height, the depth, and the glory of the Lord's Kingdom.

It's something grand, something majestic, something glorious, something that'll always be so much more than we can ever think of.

What is a human but a flesh? It's not a self-defeating statement to say that we mortals don't have forever. To me, it's a very much realistic acknowledgement of life. Truly, truly, who can ever live with no God?

Ephesians 3:18
And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

Hebrews 1:3
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Give A Little Love, Just A Little Love

If you give a little love, you can get a little love of your own.

A video by KŘIŽOVATKA OLOMOUC with background music of Noah and The Whale. Can find the lyric here. Stumbled through this video through a series of bbm broadcast and thanks to Google, found out that it's produced by a Czech, Christian non-profit organisation. Absolutely beautiful.

Isn't it beautiful? Little gestures that count, little deeds that last a lifetime.

Life's more wonderful when everybody can have this sweet awareness to help others, no matter how insignificant they think their action is. Keeping the doors opened for a mother carrying a baby behind us, helping the elderlies cross the road/carry their shopping bags, picking the empty can of coke on the pavement so that nobody got slipped, bringing a takeaway dinnerbox for our colleagues working overtime, holding the lift door for a stranger, etc.

It takes an active approach to life. Maybe a 30-day routine to make it into a habit, and another 60 days to make it be a character. Be nice to people who're not nice to us yet. Be even nicer to people who're already nice to us. Be helpful first, expect to be helped later.

John 15:12
"This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you."

Rumor: Butiran Debu

Awfully beautiful song with amazing voice and lyric.. but just can't understand the whole point of this MV. With him seemingly being the only Asian surrounded by some sort of special agents. And what's with that super beautiful lady in blonde. She's too good to be paired up with him. Sorry for being mean, but I've heard this song over and over again in the radio and I've imagined the MV to be somewhat romantic and tragic, and beautiful.

Nothing like this. At all. (-____-)

But yeh the lyric and the voice is still cool nonetheless. I'm pretty sure Indos will appreciate this kinda song because lately we've been having way, way, too much crappy mainstream songs.

Enjoy!

Butiran Debu by Rumor

Namaku cinta ketika kita bersama
Berbagi rasa untuk selamanya
Namaku cinta ketika kita bersama
Berbagi rasa sepanjang usia

Hingga tiba saatnya aku pun melihat
Cintaku yang khianat, cintaku berkhianat

Aku terjatuh dan tak bisa bangkit lagi
Aku tenggelam dalam lautan luka dalam
Aku tersesat dan tak tahu arah jalan pulang
Aku tanpamu butiran debu

Namaku cinta ketika kita bersama
Berbagi rasa untuk selamanya
Namaku cinta ketika kita bersama
Berbagi rasa sepanjang usia

Hingga tiba saatnya aku pun melihat
Cintaku yang khianat, cintaku berkhianat ooh
Menepi menepilah menjauh
Semua yang terjadi di antara kita ooh

Aku terjatuh dan tak bisa bangkit lagi
Aku tenggelam dalam lautan luka dalam
Aku tersesat dan tak tahu arah jalan pulang
Aku tanpamu butiran debu

Ignite Conference 2012, and A Father's Prayer..

Last Thursday 15 November my beloved church held a half-day long conference in Jakarta. It's called Ignite Conference 2012: God of Destiny. It was such a happy day for me.. being able to participate in the ushering team and pay contribution to the event. I was in the Ignite committee earlier this year but somewhat somehow my immaturity, new circle of friends, new job and piling workload cause me to bail out of the team :(

Lucky I can still get on with it on Ignite D-1. Thanks Lord.

The format is a typical conference's format, only that this time we have a half-day conference as a tester for our May 2013 Ignite. First, there's an afternoon rally. Then people can choose to attend either the Business Impact session or Spiritual Impact session, followed by a seriously on fire night rally.

Ignite 12 brochure in the cool two-toned black-yellow contrast. Eyecatching right?

Very unfortunate for me and ushers that we couldn't join the session because we were busy... well, ushering. It's a lot of fun though, knowing that we can serve the Lord through any means possible even if it's only by being freelance usher :D

To me, the most inspiring story doesn't come from the conference (although I was ignited like hell there). It's actually this story of a Christian father who raises up his children in strong, Godly values that he actually cried seeing his son speaking up on his belief. It's such a wonder, to me, to have Christian parents that can literally pray for you everyday and surrender your life to God even from the second you were born. Read it below.

Very inspiring story. Thank you to all the dads out there. You never knew how much you've done for your child's story of life.. May God bless you with an ever increasing wisdom and discernment to know what are the best things in life. Amen.

The Ignite team yayyy~~!!

When The Tears of Pride Drops
By Paulus Bambang

I'm scheduled to give a seminar on 'Circle of Influence' at Ignite Conference 2012, Balai Kartini, 2.30 pm. The initial plan was to come at around 2 pm after a lunch with my wife and the youngest who want to accompany me "onstage" in this event attended by roughly 300 youths.

Found out that the eldest who's in the 'worship team' wants me to attend the event since the beginning to see his team 'performance'. I said yes to supporting him from the ground below. At least, the dad, mom, and brother can 'support' him although it's only as far as handclaps under the stage.

When the firstborn, call him Daniel, appeared and started to lead the worship with an Australian-Hillsong-youth style (my son and his friends are mostly Australian graduates), I was swept away. I joined the cheers, I danced and sang although the song is pretty new to me. I forgot my age and this pair of legs that were not as strong as they used to be in the past days.

In the middle of the worship session, my tears suddenly fell down, not just in drops but pouring down like a rain. I wiped my handkerchief several times during my son-led worship.

Why did I cry? How could my tear pour down like that?

Much Fun and Love - SCG Ambassador Trip in Bangkok, Thailand

It's been a very very very extremely full weeks for me lately. Work, family time, training, SCG Kickoff preparation, church ministry (luckily only the social media part so not much responsibility yet), friendstime and metime. I really thank God for the days I've lived in ever since I first stepped my feet in Jakarta airport. I know life in Indonesia gonna be awesome and there's a truth behind a self-fulfilling prophesy. What you believe is what you get. What you look forward to is what you work on, and that will surely increase the chance of what you want to happen in the future.

Matthew 7:7
"Ask and it will be given to you;
  seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you."

I think I've always known the benefit of being an optimist in my entire life. Positive energy charges you up and let what seems to be impossible to happen. And not only that, positivity is contagious and it charges people around you too. It also makes you radiant. Believe me, people can tell whether you're being real or not. You can't fake self confidence and positive attitude, same as you can't fake a smile or a warm hug.

Romans 12:9-10
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

3-course lunch at Water Library, Bangkok with Ms Rinrada a.k.a Ant a.k.a fresh bride of the week :*

The way I see it, there's a difference between an optimistic approach toward life and living in denial. The way I see it, an optimist is someone who realises what he/she is capable of and what he's not, and he got full understanding of his character, his strengths and his flaws. That's why he can train himself to be optimist when facing challenges on the course of pursuing his life passion.

I cannot, and will never be able to hide my insecurity and lack of confidence even no matter how badly I want to. Often, I'm very much disappointed with myself for falling short of what I expect myself to do and miss the important things in life. Lucky that I have people who love to push me forward and keep encouraging me to believe in what I can do. And for this reason, I'm really grateful to God.

In The Search Of..

Beauty.

What's a beautiful life?
What's a beautiful woman?
What makes one's fashion language so beautiful and not another?

Many says that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
God says that beauty is found within wisdom. Wisdom is a she in the bible, and she is more valuable than any kind of gold or treasure on earth.

What's beauty to you?

The word search and discovery pop into my mind when I see these pics. Well, to me these pictures are definitely beautiful. The model, the style, the colours, all so beautiful. I'm never into matchstick-thin model so it's really pleasant to see beautiful ladies with actual lady-like curve instead of flatness.

Copied these beautiful photographs from brownplatform: My name is Sherlock Holmes - Anastasia Siantar. Enjoy :)

Les Misérables Movie 2012!!

Duhh I'm super excited for this movie. During my highschool time, I remember watching the broadway dvd over and over again and trying to find out as many version as possible. The best is still the 10th anniversary Dream Cast in Concert.

I even remembered all the lyrics back then. Such a geek I know. But yeah, I think it'll be great too to involve all the pretty people like Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe in the movie. Spice things up.

Are you a fan of broadway? My interest is only limited to Phantom and Les Mis, somehow.

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2013 Runway: Squares, Checkers, Grids

Escalators! The Louis Vuitton girls were coming out of mirrored wall and walking down the escalator to a square-patterned floor, one pair at a time. Marc Jacobs said that he is hugely inspired by the work of Daniel Buren to produce this runway. It's very graphic, very bright, and very cheerful (my fave is the yellow-whites).

No monogram at all. Only squares and squares and squares in various sizes.

Alert on the super slim pointy shoes with kitten heels. Also alert on the Sixties sleek hairdo. The tiny scarf wrapped on the head is so cute.
